Providing hope to Canadians in debt, by sharing my experience.
My name is Wendy and I completed my consumer proposal in 2013 (Wendy’s Story). At the time, despite what I thought of as good financial awareness, my bills just got ahead of me. Before long, I was using lower interest account credit cards to pay off higher ones and that type of thing, and I realized I was in trouble. I saw a Trustee and filed a consumer proposal. It was the best decision I could have made.
My goal is to help provide hope to Canadians in debt by sharing my experience, and advice as a consumer – and also to help eliminate the stigma and embarrassment surrounding people who file a consumer proposal or bankruptcy.
Finally, if you’re looking for help, and plain old optimism just isn’t helping anymore, you should contact a Trustee. There’s no risk in seeing one.

Nan and Richard had to tighten their budget after Richard lost his job in management. He’d been searching for a few months for a new position, but interviews had gotten him nowhere. Nan still had her job, but their income had taken a hit. A reduced budget was not the greatest of their concerns, however. […]
Do your financial concerns keep you up at night? That’s not good, but it’s increasingly common. My own monetary worries kept me from sleeping, too, until I saw a Trustee in early 2009. Anyone losing sleep because of worry and dread can tell you – it erodes your health, both mental and physical. Ironically, one […]
The answer is no! A Trustee’s role is to provide you with information on your options, and assist with the process IF you decide to go ahead with Bankruptcy or Consumer Proposal. The Trustee cannot “declare you Bankrupt.” It’s a common misconception that Bankruptcy is something that can automatically “happen” or be imposed upon you, […]
In early 2009, I realized that my personal finances were going downhill. Although I considered myself a responsible person, and I had always paid my bills on time, it was now very difficult to make ends meet. I had no disposable income, and I skimped and tried to economize … but the recession had set […]
Most people know that if they become insolvent – that is, their cash flow decreases so that they can no longer meet their financial obligations – their assets will be at risk. For many consumers, their most valued asset is their home. Fears about loss of a home frequently cause people to delay facing their […]
In 2009, when I realized I could no longer maintain my bill payments, many things went through my head. I thought I might be heading for Bankruptcy. Then, via the Bankruptcy-Canada.ca website, I also learned about Consumer Proposals. At first, I naturally didn’t know which route I would take. Back in the old days, many of us […]
