It is one of your assets and it will definitely be included/involved in your bankruptcy if you file in Canada. Sorry, but Canadian bankruptcy law deals with world-wide income and world-wide assets. The kicker is it only protects you from foreign debts in Canada – if you owe money in a foreign country (like the US) and you have income or assets in that country your foreign creditors can try and seize them.
