It is only illegal if you neglect to inform the party whom you are going to be borrowing money from that you are currently in bankruptcy. However, I wouldn’t recommend this type of practice as you may find that once the bankruptcy is finished you may very well have a number of new debts that will be causing you problems. As a result it is always best to try and curb the use of credit, as arguably it resulted in a bankruptcy once so you don’t want that to happen again.
