While there are a few very specific instances you can keep RRSP’s if you file bankruptcy, most often they are lost. The most common instance is if the RRSP’s were converted from a pension plan and locked in until you reach retirement age, but there are some instances where funds held by an insurance company that could potentially be exempt as well.

The best thing to do is to contct a local trustee and have them review you RRSP statements, this way you can be sure what category of things your investments will fall into.
