when you are writing a thesis but not attending classes are you considered a full-time student?
I was technically a full-time student up until 2009 as I was writing my thesis, but working full-time and not attending classes. I officially ended the course work for the program 1n 2004. I filed bankruptcy in 2009-but they could not include my student loans as I was considered a full-time student until 2009. Is there room for interpretation here? What is considered a full-time student? I did not receive student loans during the thesis years. thanks

The appropriate section of the Bankruptcy & Insolvency Act that deals with this is S. 178, which reads:
“any debt or obligation in respect of a loan made under the Canada Student Loans Act, the Canada Student Financial Assistance Act or any enactment of a province that provides for loans or guarantees of loans to students where the date of bankruptcy of the bankrupt occurred
(i) before the date on which the bankrupt ceased to be a full- or part-time student, as the case may be, under the applicable Act or enactment, or
(ii) within seven years after the date on which the bankrupt ceased to be a full- or part-time student”
As you were considered to be a full-time student while doing your thesis I don’t see any possible room for interpretation.
