Student Loan and Divorce

July 17th, 2009 by Questions

My wife took out a Canada student loan while we were married (I didn`t sign anything) Now that we`re filing for divorce, will I be responsible for the loan repayment?

The only way you could be responsible for a portion of these student loans repayments is if it were a term in the divorce agreement. Technically speaking, outside of the divorce settlement, if you haven’t signed on these loans then you are not legally responsible for them.
