Alberta Student Loans

As the student loans I`ve received came in two parts – one part from the Gov`t of Canada and the other from the Province of Alberta – I was wondering if the existing, as well as new regulations surrounding bankruptcy and student loans applies to both parts of my overall student loan debt. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing back on this issue.

The bankruptcy laws regarding student loans deal with both the fedeal and provoncial loans. The curerent state of the law require a person to have been away from school for a minimum of 7 years in order for student loans to be discharged by bankruptcy or a proposal. There are additional provisions allowing a person to apply to the Court under “hardship” after 5 years if they want to – to the best of my knowledge the hardship rules have not been established so I can’t give you any insight as to what “hardship” means.
