7 Year Rule

The last student loan I recieved was in 1999. I did return to school in 2000 and graduated in 2003. From 2000–2003 I did NOT recieve a student loan but was funded by the government through EI. Will the 7 year rule start from 1999 since that was the last time I recieved a student loan?

A licensed trustee said...

The 7 year clock starts the day after you were last registered as a student. If you graduated in 2003 then you won’t reach the 7 year mark until 2010. The 7 year rule has nothing to do with when you borrowed the money….
