Can I include funds owing to Employment Insurance in my bankruptcy

You are required to list your EI debt if you file for either a consumer proposal or bankruptcy. At the end of your proposal or bankruptcy the government needs to decide whether or not to pursue you for the debt. If they prove fraud or misrepresentation then the debt survives. So, did you deliberately “cheat” the system and get caught? If you did then the debt will likely survive. If you made some understandable error and don’t owe that much then it may not.
Explain your situation in detail to your trustee BEFORE you decide to file and they should be able to give you a pretty good idea if the EI debt will be cleared.
