Court costs

I am owed $52,000 in court costs, from a Family Court trial. If my ex, the debtor, goes bankrupt will I see any of that money?

Maybe, but I wouldn’t be too hopeful. If you ex files you will want to find out if your lawyer is expierienced in bankurptcy law. If they aren’t then you shoulod consult with someone that is – you have rights in a bankruptcy and if you can convince the bankurptcy Court that your ex ran up the legal costs deliberately you may be able to have your debt excluded from the bankurptcy. At the very least the Court will likely order your ex to make additional payments into their bankruptcy and you are entitled to a portion of that.
