marital status changed

The cra.changed my marital status.from.single to common law since my child was born now I’m seeing debts build up to reimburse income tax, child tax and gst….i couldn’t be more overwhelmed and am wondering if bankruptcy would erase this?

Maybe – if CRA wants to make your life miserable and they pursue you for fraud and misrepresentation then bankruptcy will NOT clear you of these debts. Unfortunately, you won’t know until after you have completed your bankruptcy whether or not this will happen.

As a hint, if you tell your CRA collector you plan to file bankruptcy and they tell you they will close their file you are probably ok. If they tell you they don’t care they plan to charge you with fraud then there’s no point filing…
