Credit card debt – spouse responsible?

I have a large amount of credit card debt. I qualified for all of the credit cards on my own, my husband didn’t co-sign, however, I did get supplemental cards for him. My understanding was that I was the only person responsible for the debt even though other people helped accrue it. If I file for bankruptcy will this affect my husband?

You will have to check with each credit card company that issued a supplemental (or spousal) card to see what you actaully agreed to. In most cases, the supplemental card holder becomes a co-borrower. That means if you file for bankruptcy the co-borrower may be held responsible for the debt.

I suggest you double check all of your accounts BEFORE you actually file for bankruptcy.
