Can I request a new trustee?
How can I guarantee that my trustee has my best interest in mind? I am often threatened that if I don’t pay off debts that they will close my case. I am already paying off the maximum amount I can to the federal government and still get threats. It almost seems like my trustee wants to close my case so I will have to pay more money to have it opened. My trustee has previously lied to me in the past and other members of their organization have dealt with me unethically. What are my rights?

Firstly, your trustee shouldn’t have your best interests in mind, as an officer of the court they shouldn’t consider your interests nor the interests of the creditors, their role is to make sure you fulfill the requirements laid out in the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. But, if you believe you have been treated in an unethical manner you should register a complaint with the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy.
