i have been unemployed for a few years.. i have a debt of aprox. $12000, i have run out of funs to continue to make payments, i need to know how to file, and if it will cost me any thing to do it..what is my next step

The first thing you need to do is meet with a local trustee so they can sit down, review your situation and explain what is involved in the bankruptcy process. For reference there is no cost of obligation to this meeting. To schedule this you can click on the green bar below and it will direct you to a trsutee in your area.

The trustee will run through a number of things, including the cost and the other duties and responsibilities.

In terms of cost, there is a cost to file, but this cost can vary significantly depending on your financial circumstances, so you are best to discuss this directly with the trustee you contact.
