Bankruptcy and unsecure credit card
November 3rd, 2009 by Questions
We will be discharged from bankruptcy April 2010. Are we allowed to apply for an unsecure credit card now and have it just in case of an emergency? We can’t afford a secure credit card. Thank you for this site, its great and helpful Mary

AS long as you disclose that you remain an undischarged bankrupt, you may apply for credit whereever and with whomever you want. The difficulty will be getting approval – the reason people apply for secured cards is because the risk to the lender is lower and therefore it is easier to get approved. I am not aware of any company offering unsecured cards to undischarged bankrupts at this time.
