Would RRSP be protected for child support arrears
February 9th, 2009 by Questions
My ex-husband is $12,000.00 behind in child support payments which is being tracked by the FRO. He just went bankrupt and listed an RRSP on his bankruptcy information. The trustee told me that it is a protected RRSP. Would his RRSP still be protected for child support arrears?

The nature of the debt makes no difference in a bankruptcy situation. All RRSP contributions except for those made in the 12 months immediately preceding the bankruptcy are protected against seizure.
