Request for death certificate
My wife and myself went bankrupt in May 2008 after consulting a trustee. We have been paying a surplus etc and filling in forms to where we spend our money on one form we made a note that my wifes father passed away causing extra travel expenses. We were then called by the trustees representative asking if there was an inheritance. We said no and that there is no will but that my wifes mother was still alive. We have been asked to provide a death certificate for her father now but are very unconfortable asking her for a copy. Is this an unreasonable request as we told them there was no money or inheritance as we are not exucutors.

I’m a little uncertain why you are troubling the widow for the Death Certificate – you should be able to contact the Coroner’s Office (or its equivalent in BC) and get a copy of the Certificate directly from them.
I don’t know why the trustee has requested a copy of the Certificate, but it doesn’t sound like an unreasonable request to me. If you have concerns then book an appointment to meet with yuor trustee and ask them to explain to you why they require a copy. If you don’t agre with their reasons then perhaps you speak to a lawyer, but until you know why your trustee wants the Certificate I don’t think you can determine if the request is reasonable or not.
