brother`s bankruptcy

I found out earlier today (by accident) that my brother filed for bankruptcy. I had been told in the past that if a family member claims bankruptcy that the creditor can go to the family members in order to pay off their debts.

Can anyone come after me and my husband in order to pay for my brother or was the information given to me false?

A licensed trustee said...

Whomever told you this was misinformed – the only person(s) that can be held responsile for a bankrupt individuals debts are people that co-signer or otherwise guaranteed the debts. If you didn’t sign for any of your brother’s debt then you cannot be hled responsible to repay it.
