debt and no permanent employment

I have approx. 56,000 in debt and no permanent employment (free lance contractor). My home is a trailer in an RV park (secured loan of $18,000). The bank has stated that they will seize my trailer if I declare bankruptcy. I have a pet and the small monthly payment on the trailer together with the pad rent is much much less than an apartment would cost. Any alternatives?

Most secured lenders will allow you to keep the property if you are up to date on the payments and continue to make payments after a bankruptcy. The threat of seizing the property if you file bankruptcy may simply be a threat as most times people are permitted to keep property like that.

As for alternatives I would typically suggest a consumer proposal, but if you don’t have consistent employment that may be difficult. The best thing I can suggest is to contact a local trustee and review things in detail. They will then be able to advise as to the best course of action.
