First, bankruptcy laws in Canada are federal which means they are the same no mater where you live in the country. There are some regional differences in how things are handled, but the underlying law is the same.
If you co-signed any of your ex’s debts (like the jeep loan) and he has filed for bankruptcy then the creditors have a right to pursue you for the whole debt. Unfortunately, we see this all the time – one spouse files bankruptcy without warning/discussing it with their ex. Suddenly the ex is on the hook for all the joint debts.
I think you should speak directly to a trustee in your area to see if you can avoid filing for bankruptcy yourself.
