Spouse`s Involvment

October 22nd, 2008 by Questions

It was my husband`s business that went bankrupt. The trustee wants me to declare my income. Why is that necessary? It was my husband`s business not mine and I do not understand why the `trustees` want my information. What do you suggest?

It is necessary because it is required by federal legislation (The Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act) and failure to comply with the requirement could result in the refusual of your husband’s discharge. I suggest you disclose this information as providing it doesn’t mean your implicated or involved with the bankruptcy in any way and it will make the process easier on your husband.
