roomate

September 17th, 2008 by Questions

My common law partner and i have been discussing dissolving our relationship and living together as roomates for a number of reasons (mainly our daughter and the high cost of living). I am planning to file bankruptcy next year when my student loans are 7 years old. I am wondering if and how living as a roomate with my ex will affect my going bankrupt. We have three bedroom house that we rent, and he would either move into the spare room or the basement.

It is possible (and quite legal) to be separated and still live under the same roof – lots of people do it for economic reasons… Simply discuss your situation with your trustee before you file and make sure everyone undertsands how it will be dealt with.
