Permanent resident sponsorship and bankruptcy

July 16th, 2008 by Questions

I have sponsored my spouse to become a permanent resident in Canada. Can I declare bankruptcy during the required sponsorship period?

I don’t believe that filing a bankruptcy will impact the rest of the sponsorship process, but realistically this is an area where I have had very little exposure. Your are best to contact either the division of the Federal Government you have been dealing with or an attorney that specializes in this area to confirm this.
