Live in Canada with Debts in U.S.
April 15th, 2008 by Questions
Can I live in Canada and go bankrupt in the U.S. without harming my Canadian credit? I do not want my Canadian credit impacted but I would like to clear off my U.S. credit card debt that has become overwhelming.
Thanks

An American bankruptcy will not be reflected on your Canadian credit, but there would be nothing preventing any of your creditors from checking both your American and Canadian credit ratings when making lending decisions.
In terms of filing bankruptcy in the US while living in Canada, I assume this is possible, but you will really need to contact an American bankruptcy attorney.
