Fed Tax & Credit Cards

I hope you can answer a couple of questions I have regarding filing for bankruptcy.

I live in Ontario, Canada.

I have about $175K owing in Fed Tax.
over many years.
I have about $ 55K owing in Credit Cards

I have not been working for about 6 months, and I am having some difficulty finding another job.

1 – Can I file for bankruptcy ?
2 – How long will I stay bankrupt ?

Thanks

Yes, you may file for bankruptcy. How long you remain bankrupt will depend on your income during the bankruptcy – the higher your income the longer the procedure – and whether or not the Canada Revenue Agency (or any of your other creditors) request a hearing in order for you to obtain your discharge.

Assuming your income is modest and no one requests ahearing, your bankruptcy should end in 9 months. Use the links to contact a trustee in your area for more details.
