rent or not

I`m living with a woman in a relationship that I pay her rent every month and I thinking of going into bankrupticy, and would like to know if this would afect her in any way .

A licensed trustee said...

She might be affected in a couple of ways:

First, if she is joint on any of your debt and you file then she will be held responsible to repay those debts; and

Second, you may be treated as common-law under federal law if you have been living together for more than 12 months. If that is the case, her income will have to be disclosed as part of your bankruptcy and it may impact your monthly payments.
