Will my wages be garnished as soon as I start a job

Hi. I have been unemployed for some time and have 2 debts that are in collection with CBCL. One is for student loans and the other is from GMAC.

I am considering going back to work now that my 2 children are in school full time. Will my wages be garnished as soon as I start a job? I intend to file a proposal, but haven\”t done so yet.

The best answer I can give you is “maybe”. If the student loans people or GMAC sued you duirng your period of unemployment then they may have the right to apply to garnishee your wages as soon as you return to work. Of course, they need to know that you”ve returned to work in order to ask for a garnishee…
