If a consumer proposal is possible, can I still choose to file for bankruptcy instead ?

Everyone can choose to file a bankruptcy. However if you file bankruptcy and were realistically able to file a consumer proposal you will find that this may be a reason for your discharged to be opposed (this will be done either by your creditors, or your trustee as the trustee has a legal obligation to notify the court if you were eligible to file a proposal).
