Want to Buy property

Hi there, My common-law husband and I filed Bankruptcy almost 9 months ago. A few months ago I received a buy out package from my previous employer. I gave half of that as requested to my trustee. I am set to be discharged On July 31, my husband Aug. 31. I have the chance to buy a piece of property for a really good price. Can I do this?? As I am sure you know renting in Alberta is a big Problem right now, so in buying this property and a trailer would greatly help us out. We would be doing this all with cash. Can they stop my discharge or take away the assets if we do this?? Thank you

There’s no legal reason not to go ahead with the deal, but it may be very difficult to secure financing for the purchase (if you need a mortgage or loan in addition to whatever buy-out money you have left). Call your trustee and let them know what you’re trying to do – they may be able to help.
