Paying for Bankruptcy

My friend is filing for bankruptcy and he has asked his parents to pay the fees. His parents are seniors on a very small pension. He doesn’t work and does not seem emotionally capable of working with other people. He has been out of the work force for about 4 years. How can a person who doesn’t make any money pay fees associated with bankruptcy? Isn’t that just a finiancial burden for someone else?

You seemed to have turned things around just a little bit – there is a cost associated with filing bankruptcy (the trustee needs to be paid, theire are Court fees and other expenses that someone has to pay). If the person that wants to file can’t afford to make the payments then they probably shouldn’t file.

As a rule, most trustees don’t suggest people ask families or friends to make their payments for them – the cost is part of the process and frankly, if someone else makes the payments the person that fles bankruptcy may not feel the full impact and importance of what they have done.
