Left country while owing money
April 21st, 2007 by Questions
I had run up about 80,000 dollars of debt in 1998 and had left Canada without informing the creditors. The reason was a personal problem and I had no alternative.
While outside Canada I didn\’t make any significant money. I returned to Canada six months ago , no creditor has contacted me till now. If I file bankruptcy now will there be problems?

You may have some explaining to do regarding why you had to leave and what you did before you left to accumulate that much debt, but in and of itself, leaving and returning shouldn’t cause any problems for you if you file for bankruptcy now.
