Spousal Responsibilities

I am the sole proprietor of my business which has been the only source of income for my family. My wife helped out with paperwork and I gave her signing rights on the business bank accounts to facilitate handling the day to day operations. Still, she has no interest in the business itself and does not make the financial decisions. I have just gone bankrupt and some creditors (at this point mainly the bank) is trying to make her cover the complete debt. Is this possible??? My trustee had said no….is he wrong? PLEASE HELP!

I appreciate your frustration, but without knowing a great deal more about your situation and specifically what you spouse may (or may not) have signed, I can’t give you an answer. If your trustee has said she is not liable then presumably she is not liable. If you require a second opinion then I suggest your spouse contact a lawyer and ask them for their advice.
