Job loss, debts

I have been laid off my full time job, I am able to get part time work but the wages will not be enough to cover all my debts, rent and utilities. I don’t realy want to file for bankruptcy as I have a van making payments to a bank and need the van for my disabled daughter who is in a wheelchair. It will take all my earnings to pay rent and utilities with nothing left over to pay the creditors. What can I do? I am suffering from stress, sleepless nights and high blood pressure from worring about all this. I live in Edmonton, Alberta

Typically speaking this depends on you’re the income coming in. There is always a good possibility that you can keep the van, however it is ultimately up to the lending institution and your ability to continue making payments on the vehicle. In terms of the best course of action, you would be best advised to contact a licensed trustee directly and enquire in to the possibility of a bankruptcy or consumer proposal.
