Legal rights of a bankrupt.

When a person is an undischarged bankrupt can he sign any document? Is the signature valid and binding? Like an insurance claim form or application for passport or basic day to day activities like receiving registered mail or signing on a check or receipt.

There is nothing that prevents an undischarged bankrupt from signing any documents as long as the documents don’t relate to assets that vested in the trustee upon the filing of a bankruptcy. For example, let’s say you owned a vacation property that was not considered exempt during the bankruptcy process. By filing a bankruptcy you effectively loose ownership rights of any non-exempt property, so you would no longer have the legal right to sign anything relating to this property.

For more information on this you are best to contact your trustee and they will be able to walk you through this.
