Can I declare bankruptcy, as a Canadian citizen working in Europe

Dear Sirs,

I am a Canadian citizen, working for a Canadian company with offices in the UK. Since I left Canada, I regularly paid my creditors by monthly transfers an I was never in arrears. I owe to the banks close to CDN $ 30000. Starting last December I got very sick with my kidneys and I start spending a lot of money on private health care, as my company can not cover certain medical expenses. Because of my illness and due to the fact that my wife doesn’t have a job for more then a year, nor the perspective of getting a job in the near future, I can no longer afford to make transfers to Canada, in order to pay my debts.
In this situation, please let me know if there is any possibility to declare bankruptcy in British Columbia, while I am still working in the UK to support my wife and myself. My wife and me, we do not have any propreties in Canada or in the UK and we live in a rented apartment.

Thank you so much!

In order to file bankruptcy in Canada you must either appear in person or someone with a properly executed Power of Attorney may appear in your stead. You cannot file bankruptcy in abstentia.
