House not in name

How long does a persons name have to be removed from a house deed before they can claim bankrupt? Name has been on house, not married to other name holder, not on morgage have never paid morgage payments but was on deed, thinking of claiming from old student loans from 19 years age.

I can’t give you a simple “this is how long answer” – if your are still living in the house then the law allows a trustee up to 5 years to consider the appropriateness of transferring a house to someone else. It becomes contentious if you owed significant amounts of money when you transferred it and you weren’t paid the fair value of your share of the property.

You might try talking to a lawyer, but I doubt they will be able to give you a definitive answer either.
