There is a registry kept by the Superintendent of Bankruptcy that is accessible by the public and for a fee they can search to see if anyone has filed a bankruptcy. There is limited information that is contained in the registry (i.e. name, birth date, date of bankruptcy, date of discharge, total amount of liabilities, trustee responsibleâ€¦). In some types of bankruptcies (typically when dealing with a commercial entity) that notice has to be published in a newspaper, but this is exceptionally rare when dealing with individuals.
