How do I get released frommy bankruptcy that started in 2000?

I started my bankruptcy in 2000, but because I did not submit my monthly budget reports, I cannot get released. I am trying to rebuild my credit, and have applied to buy a car, but the dealership said I need to be released from this bankruptcy. I have been told I need to apply to the courts to have this reopened, which costs $500 or more, and not a financial option for me. When will this bankruptcy be released from my credit report?

You have 3 options:
1. Hire a lawyer to make the court application on your behalf (typically this will cost much more than the $500 requested by your trustee);
2. Have your trustee re-appointed;
3. Stay in bankruptcy and pay your debts in full.
Unless there is some provision I am not aware of I believe that if you stay in bankruptcy indefinitely your bankruptcy credit bureau may report this as a bankruptcy indefinitely as it is not removed until 6 years from the date of your discharge.
