No idea where to start – living outside of Canada
I left Canada in 2000. I did not do this to avoid debt, but rather to hopefully ease my financial situation. I continued to pay my bills, until the bank who holds my unsecured line of credit (which was up to date) decided I was to great a credit risk, and froze the account. I could no longer afford to pay my bills. I have never hidden from my creditors, infact I used to get 4AM phone calls from a collection agency in Montreal!! I did make a settlement offer on the line of credit. It was refused. I also offered to settle another card. I never received a response from the bank. At the end of December 2005 I closed my mailboxesetc account in Canada, because I had not received anything from my creditors in many months. I could not afford the monthly payment for the box. I have no idea if any judgements have been taken out against me or not. I still have a bank account in Canada, and it has not been frozen. I have finally saved enough money to come back to visit my 82 year old father this summer, and would like to sort this whole mess out. What can I do?
Thanks in advance.

I suggest you return to Canada to visit your father. Once you return, you should meet with a you personal bankruptcy trustee to review your options, which will include a consumer proposal or personal bankruptcy. Because you have been out of Canada for a number of years, it is likely that the creditors have lost track of you, and therefore it is also possible that they will now be willing to accept some form of settlement from you.
