Ex-boyfriend’s mortgage
I owned a house with a boyfriend for 2 yrs., we had a mortgage. Things didn’t work out, I couldn’t finance his gambling and expensive taste anymore. I transferred house back to him, moved out, and he was supposed to get new mortgage (in Oct/2001). I filed a Consumer Proposal 10 mths after we split up due to 10 wk strike, no income, to pay his debts I incurred on my credit cards. I claimed this mortgage in my proposal. My proposal ends in Aug/06. He still has not got his own mortgage, has defaulted in pmts., mtg. co. filed Stmt. of Claim against him and myself, then he paid up the arrears so they withdrew claim. He claims he can’t get a mtg. in his own name because of his bad credit rating. I’m insisting he get a new mtg. as I will not be responsible for his debts.
I made a huge financial mistake trusting this man, I know now, but what happens when consumer proposal ends, and he defaults again, am I still protected?
How can you force someone to get their own mortgage and take their responsibility back?
Does anyone know an effective formula to detach leeches…permanently?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The answer to your question depends largely on how the consumer proposal was worded. As a result, without seeing the proposal itself I can’t even begin to suggest what is going to happen once the proposal is completed. I suggest you direct this question to your trustee as he would have access to all the necessary information.
