Once a wage garnishment starts, there are typically three ways to get it to stop:
1. Repay the debt (in other words make a deal directly with the creditor);
2. File a proposal to your creditors; or
3. File for bankruptcy.
As for whether the debt from small claims court is covered, it most likely is. There is a very small category of debts that survives a bankruptcy and it includes debts like fraud, certain student loans, debts that are the result of monies stolen from trust funds. I would recommend contacting a licensed trustee in your area, bring all the documents relating to this garnishee and court order to ensure that this is a debt that you will be released from.
