Harassment

I can’t pay my debts at the moment . If I don’t find employment soon I may have to declare bankruptcy . Several collection agencies are trying to collect their money from me. They really can’t do much because I have no property or a job. They are threatening , intimidating and they refuse to accept my explanation why I can’t pay .They are calling so much that I can’t even make a personal call.Everyday I get 20-30 voice mails from 3 agencies when I don’t answer .The bulk coming from one of them.I changed my phone # to stop it ..Now that they have it they are harassing me horribly . They call as many as 10 times in an hour anytime of the day . They even called me on christmas mas day.I contacted the police and they agreed that they were breaking the law by harassing me.They could do nothing but tell me to change my number.I guess the agencies must follow the provincial law depending on what province they operate. Is this correct? What provincal law do they follow if I am in New Brunswick and they are in Ontario? Do they operate according to the law in NB ,where I live? The police cannot make them follow provincial law in how they can contact me because they operate their business in the United States. A guy would think that there is something he could do .

There is provincial legislation in place that limits what collection agents are entitled to do. If you wish to complain about a collection agency may contact their provincial or territorial office of consumer affairs I have listed the numbers for both New Brunswick and Ontario, but I can’t tell you which would be better to contact.
