The exact list of debts that are not discharged when a person files bankruptcy appears in Section 178 of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. I suggest you read that section if you’d like a complete list. Copies of the Act are available in various places on the web.
Breifly, the follwing types of debt are not discharged by bankruptcy (or a proposal):
1) fines or penalties imposed by a Court 2) alimony and/or support payments 3) debts aring from fraud, embezzlement, etc. 4) student loans unless you have been out of school for 10 years
If you have concerns about whether or not a specific debt will be discharged I suggest you ask whatever trustee that you are dealing with to comment on that debt before you file your assignment.
