Working with a Trustee
Do I have to select from the list a Trustee in my area? I am embarassed to go near a public office where I live close-by. Can I choose a different location then the one I live in when picking a trustee?

The Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA) clearly states that the filing of an assignment in bankruptcy must be in the principal place where:
a) the debtor has carried on business during the year immediately preceding his bankruptcy,
b) where the debtor has resided during the year immediately preceding his bankruptcy, or
c) where the greater portion of the property of the debtor is situated.
My recommendation is to simply contact a licensed trustee in your area. If you live in a small town that is serviced by trustee’s from a neighboring city you can always go to the trustee’s main office, but other than that you really must deal locally as the trustee must be authorized to act in your local court jurisdiction.
