phone calls from collections.

I cant pay my bills and I am receiving calls all day from 9 different creditors . I talked to most of them at least twice .I am changing my phone number to an unpublished number to get some peace. They have my address and that should be enough to contact me.Do I have any legal obligation to give them my number . Somedays it seems like the callers are in a que. One call stops ringing as another call starts to ring. I am not sure if any one creditor is harassing me with calls or if it is the shear numbers of creditors I have.

The collectors are well within their rights to call you at home, even if they have your address. If you change your number this will possibly buy you time, but could result in your creditors calling your employer.

Ultimately the only way to stop this collection activity is to make arrangements to pay your debts in full, make arrangements through a credit counseling organization to enter into a debt management plan or orderly payment of debt, offer up a consumer proposal to pay a portion of your debts over time, or if none of the above will work you may have to look at filing a bankruptcy.

I suggest contacting a licensed trustee to discuss your options as the sooner you catch the difficulties the more likely you will be able to avoid bankruptcy.
