Bankruptcy outside Canada?
Hi,just perusing the site after 6 months of financial hell. Please allow me to explain: I actually live in Germany after having to leave Canada because of not being able to get any job (an economic emigrant if you can believe it). I couldn’t get a job delivering pizza. Now I earn decently and work hard on my own very new business on the side. What’s the problem, you say? Well, it’s my debt back in Ontario : I have had a hard time sending back $1500 a month every month when I am trying to support my family. My wife had a good job back home (nurse) but with three children not the best option to be separated. After 2 years in Germany, it looks like this is going to happen until the business really takes off (still working full time on the side).
And so, after years of slogging away I finally thought about banruptcy which if you knew me has really become a last option (well, the real last is working in Iraq where some of my former colleagues are). Everything came crashing down at the end of last month when the money which I had sent back last month came inexplicably back to my account and therefore I missed payments. I had made the transaction online with the actual help of a live bank assistant from the RBC. I did alert the credit card companies and banks of the problem, nonetheless I will still be the one to pay the consequences.
To make a long story short (yeah right), I am wondering about bankruptcy options and proposols for someone in my situation, Canadian citizen with Canadian bank accounts but resident in Germany. Any ideas?

To declare bankruptcy in Canada, you generally must return to Canada. A licensed trustee must assess your situation personally, which would have to be done in Canada.
