By consumer report I believe you are referring to a credit check (which is done through Equifax or TransUnion Credit) and yes a bankruptcy will show up on a credit report. As to whether or not this will affect your ability to rent an apartment is really dependent on what internal practices the property management company employs. While some companies may place a great deal of weight on your credit history, it has been my experience that many rental companies understand that difficulties do happen and will often be willing to overlook a poor credit history if you are able to provide them with a few solid references.
