Bankruptcy: Can I file bankruptcy

I have student loan debt, consolidation debt, and credit card debt and I am presently not employed and do not qualify for unemployment. Can I file bankruptcy?

You could file bankruptcy, but in most cases it is better to wait until you are working again to file. There is a cost to going bankrupt, and since you don’t need protection from your creditors while you are not working (since you have no wages to garnishee), it may be best to wait. However, every situation is different, and if your situation is causing you stress, a meeting with a licensed trustee may be a wise move so that you fully understand your options.
