You are correct that in the United States it is possible to file your bankruptcy papers yourself. In Canada, only a trustee can advise you of your options, file the paperwork, and administer your personal bankruptcy. Most trustees will help you with payment arrangements, so your best option is to contact a personal bankruptcy trustee to work out a payment plan.
