supplemental credit card

My mother obtained supplemental credit cards from several credit card companies. I charged living expenses to these cards while in university. I paid her what I charged each month by adding to her payment or made the payment by myself. She now finds herself in serious financial trouble and is considering bankruptcy. She has no assets and lives with my brother. Her income is from a pension. She is 65. I am not a co-signer but did use the supplemental cards she gave me. Am I responsible for the debt if she declares bankruptcy? Thanks

Probably yes. If she goes bankrupt, and you have used the cards, the credit card companies will hold you responsible for the cards.

I suggest that both you and your mother contact a licensed trustee to review the credit card statements and advise you on your options. If you can’t repay the credit cards and you don’t want to go bankrupt, it may be possible to file a consumer proposal, either on your own or jointly with your mother.
